Produce Safety

MI On-Farm Produce Safety
Produce Safety Technicians offer VOLUNTARY, CONFIDENTIAL, & FREE assistance to all produce growers regardless of farm size, income, or product distribution. All services are guided by the science-based federal minimum standards for safe growing, harvesting, handling and storing of fresh fruits and vegetables, known as the Produce Safety Rule. 


Some services available to produce growers by Produce Safety Technicians include:
  • MI ​Produce Safety Risk Assessment 
    • Certificate awarded to farms who complete the risk assessment and any necessary steps to reduce potential food safety risks
  • Produce Safety Plan writing assistance
    • ​An on-farm produce safety plan is required to receive a MI Produce Safety Certificate 
  • Farm visits, technical advice & tips on managing on-farm microbial risks
  • On-Farm Readiness Review
    • ​In-depth assessment of a farm's readiness for a Produce Safety Inspection from an MDARD inspector
  • Produce Safety Alliance Grower Training
    • ​Certificate awarded for participants who complete the full-day training
    • Meets FSMA Produce Safety Rule training requirement for covered farms

Designed specifically for farm food safety supervisors to learn more about the requirements of the FSMA Produce Safety Rule and support their farm's compliance with the rule.
